Katie Waring is a former special adviser to Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vincent Cable[1] and to the Energy Minister Edward Davey until February 2013.

Waring now works as head of corporate affairs at Global Radio, the company behind the Capital, Heart, LBC and Classic FM brands. [2]

Background

Previously a researcher for Liberal Democrat MP David Laws,[3] Waring continued to be his special adviser in the early days of the Coalition Government until Laws (then Chief Secretary to the Treasury) resigned over expenses;[4] at which point Waring moved to Vince Cable's office.[5]

In an article about "the wild side of life in Westminster's political village", Waring remarked:

I'm excited that everyone will think I've a glamorous life. There's a lot of camaraderie ... and a good atmosphere between most researchers and their MPs. It's a bit like university. Everybody is in each other's pockets all the time and people have the same interests. When you get so many young people working with the same interests there will be relationships ... Interns try to wheedle in. Researchers need to make themselves indispensable.[6]
