John Rennie is a former soldier and community worker. He has worked for various private companies in prisons and immigration detention centres in the UK and Australia.[1]

Army

Rennie was a corporal in the British Army from 1973 to 1985. He served 12 years with the Royal Army Medical Corp and then the Scots Dragoon Guards. Following this he joined the Territorial Army and served for ten years, in 4 Para (15 Coy), 205 FLD Hospital and then "with 127 Royal Engineers as the unit medic".

Community worker

From 1992 to 1997 he was a Community Care support worker with Mary Magdelene Sisters in East Sussex, "working with adults with learning difficulties and challenging behaviour."

Serco

During his time with Serco Rennie was "part of three support teams that have helped open up 2 new prisons and 1 immigration centre". He was also "a trainer in the custodial environment whether it be with new officers or refresher training with existing staff."

HMP Lowdham Grange

He was a prison custody officer for Serco at HMP Lowdham Grange from 1997 to 1999.

HMP Ashfield

He was a senior custody officer for Serco at HMP Ashfield from 1999 to 2004.

Colnbrook IRC

He was a detention custody manager for Serco at Colnbrook IRC from 2004 to 2011. He then became a duty manager from March 2011 to September 2014.

Australia

At some point during his time at Serco, John Rennie went on a secondment to Australia "to assist in the new contract there for 10 months".

Mitie

He became residential manager for Mitie Care and Custody at Heathrow IRC (a merger of Colnbrook IRC and Harmondsworth IRC) in September 2014.
