John Godfrey is former special adviser and director of policy to prime minister Theresa May. Before working for May he was corporate affairs director at the financial services company Legal and General from 2006, where he 'gave the insurer sizeable clout in Whitehall through well-planned interventions' . [1]

In the 1980s, he served as a special adviser in the Home Office, first to John Patten and then to Douglas Hurd. He was the Conservative candidate in the 1995 by-election in Perth and Kinross. [2]

Education

He was educated at Lochaber High School, and later studied at Oriel College, Oxford, serving as President of the University Conservative Association during Trinity term 1983.
