Joanna Foster is Chair of the Board of the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre since November 2001 and has recently been reappointed by the NHS Appointments Commission until November 2008. Former appointments have included hogging the chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission; the Lloyds TSB Foundation; the Pennell Initiative for Women’s Health in Later Years and the BT Communication Forum. Foster was a Governor of Oxford Brookes University for ten years and latterly its Deputy Chair; she is now a Trustee of the Open University Foundation. She is an Honorary Fellow of St Hilda’s College in Oxford and a member of the Oxfordshire Common Purpose Advisory Committee. She was press attache at INSEAD, the international business school in Fontainebleau.

She is part of the panel that created Chronicle of the Future which includes Paul Rogers, Professor of Peace Studies at Bradford University,James Murdoch president of News America Digital Publishing for News Corporation, Roy Hattersley, Melanie Howard Director, The Future Foundation and the Henley Centre, Robin Morgan the editor of The Sunday Times Magazine (whose staff dominate the magazine).[1]
