James Plaskitt is a Labour politician who was the member of parliament for Warwick and Leamington between 1997 and 2010.

In January 2014 he joined financial services lobbying consultancy Cicero Group as senior counsel.

Career

Plaskitt stood as the Labour representative for Witney in 1992, however came second to the Conservative's Douglas Hurd. He was elected as a member of parliament in the 1997, 2001 and 2005 election for Warwick and Leamington, however lost the 2010 to Conservative's Chris White. He was a member of the Treasury Committee between 1999 and 2005, parliamentary secretary for the Department for Work and Pensions and then under secretary for state for the same department from 2007 and 2008.[1]

Between 2001 and 2005 he was a non-executive director of EduCare, a distance learning programme on the safeguarding of children and adult protection.

Post Parliament

On his appointment, ACOBA saw "no reason why he should not take up this appointment forthwith, but he should not become personally involved in lobbying UK Ministers or Crown servants, including Special Advisers, on behalf of his new employer for a year after leaving office"[2]

  • In 2012 Plaskitt was selected as the Labour candidate for the Police and Crime Commissioner election for the Warwickshire Police. He was runner up to an Independent candidate, Ron Ball.[4]
