Jake Berry is a British politician who has been the Conservative Party MP for Rossendale and Darwen since 2010.[1]

He was appointed a junior minister at the Department for Communities and Local Government on 14 June 2017, with responsibility for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth) [2]

Berry previously was parliamentary private secretary to the chief secretary to the Treasury Greg Hands from From May 2015[3] until 2017.

Berry was elected in 2010 with a majority vote of 4,493 and increased that to 5,654 in the May 2015 general election.

=Ministerial responsibilities 2017

As DCLG parliamentary under secretary of state (Minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth) Berry is responsible for:

  • The Northern Powerhouse
  • Mayors and devolution
  • Local growth – policy and initiatives (eg enterprise zones, high streets, coastal communities)
  • Place-based initiatives (eg Thames Estuary Growth Commission)
  • Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) policy
  • Inward investment and infrastructure (including High Speed 2)
  • European Regional Development Fund, and UK Shared Prosperity Fund
  • Resilience and Emergencies
  • Community rights (including pubs)
  • Minister for Secondary Legislation
