Graham Hook has served as a special adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond since 2012. [1] Hammond kept hold of both Hook and special adviser Hayden Allan during his transition from the foreign and commonwealth office to the treasury in 2016. [2]

Hook gets paid an annual salary of £65,000 for his special adviser role. [3]

He previously worked as a special adviser to Justine Greening in her role as transport secretary in October 2011. [4]

Before being appointed as a special adviser, Hook was a senior consultant at lobbying firm Interel. [5] There he worked as a Conservative party official.

Activities

According to PR Week in October 2011:

Hook moved to Interel after the 2010 general election, having been an assistant director in the Conservative Party's research department.
At Conservative HQ, Hook managed the ‘briefing team’, responsible for briefing David Cameron and members of the shadow cabinet for high-profile media appearances.
It is understood he will primarily advise Greening on policy. He is expected to take up the post immediately. [4]
