Glyn Davies MP for Montgomeryshire

Glyn Davies is the Conservative Party MP for Montgomeryshire. [1] When he was elected in May 2010 he gained a majority of 1,184 over the Liberal Democrats MP Lembit Opik. [2]

In 2015 he was once again re-elected, with an increased majority of 5,325 and 45 per cent of the vote. [3]

Davies is also the current president of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales and a trustee of the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust. [2] Davies is also described as having a keen interest in mental health issues and therefore chose to be president of his local Parkinson's Disease Society in Wales. [2]

Background

Davies began his career in politics in 1980 when he chose to work for his local District Council. Between 1985 and 1989 Davies was chairman of Montgomeryshire District Council, having previously served as chair of their planning committee and chair of their finance committee. [4]

As well as this, Davies has served as chair of the development board for rural Wales, [4] and between 1999 and 2007, he was the Conservative assembly member for the Mid and West Wales region. [4]

Tobacco

Davies was one of the 104 Tories who voted against the introduction of plain cigarette packaging in March 2015. In May 2014 he received two tickets to the Chelsea Flower show worth £1,404.00 from Japan Tobacco International (JTI).[5][6]
