George Eykyn is the director of communications at 'Big Six' energy supplier British Gas - owned by Centrica plc. He is a former consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers and was director of communications for five years at the Department for Communities and Local Government until December 2013. [1]

Career

Eykyn began his career with the BBC. Whilst still at university he worked for them on a freelance basis, before becoming a news trainee, a regional journalist and TV reporter in Northern Ireland, a TV reporter on the Breakfast News, a regular presenter on the World News channel and finally a news correspondent for BBC News.

In 2004 he joined 'Big Four' accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as a senior consultant leading on public sector communication. Whilst at PwC his clients included 'governments in the Middle East and former Soviet Union, UK departments, agencies and public sector organisations from NHS trusts and local authorities to police forces'.

Eykyn joined the Department for Communities and Local Government in 2008 as the director of communications, where he was also a senior member of the Whitehall Directors of Communications group, who are 'closely involved with the restructuring of Government communications'.

In February 2014, Eykyn replaced Paul Fincham as director of communications at British Gas.[2]
