Edward Bickham joined Anglo American plc as Executive Vice President, External Affairs, in April 2000. His major clients included major media companies, British Energy; the Paper Federation and a number of foreign governments.

He served as Special Adviser to the Foreign Secretary (1990-93) during the Gulf War, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Maastricht Treaty negotiations. From 1985 until 1988 he was Special Adviser to the Home Secretary and to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1983-85). He was Director of Corporate Communications for British Satellite Broadcasting from 1988 to 1990.
