Distilled Spirits Council of the United States

The Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUS) is a coalition of alcohol producers within the United States. The aim of the coalition is is to represent distillers in relation to 'policy and legislative issues in our nation’s capital, state capitals and foreign capitals worldwide'.[1] DISCUS is a national trade association that plays an active role in promoting the alcohol industry interests in relation to trade policy.

Activities

DISCUS has actively been involved in challening domestic regulations throughout the world. In 2003,DISCUS president testified at a U.S congregational hearing on the proposed US-Chile hearing that would open up the Chilean market for American competitors.[2]. Furthermore, DISCUS claims to have been responsible for the reduction of Romanian Tariffs on US Bourbon.[3].
