Amess entered Parliament on 9 June 1983 in a General Election with a majority of 8,959 votes. He represents the constituency of Southend West. [2] He is also an active member of the pro-Israel lobbying group the Conservative Friends of Israel[3] and appeared at a Mujahedin-e Khalq rally in New York in 2010 where he introduced National Council of Resistance (the MEK's front group) leader Maryam Rajavi.[4]
