Colin McAllister is the current head of policy and special adviser to Scotland's deputy first minister, John Swinney. [1]

Background

From October 2012 to July 2013, McAllister was deputy head of policy and special adviser to the first minister of Scotland with responsibility for finance and education. Prior to this, he worked for Care Inspectorate, an independent 'scrutiny and improvement body for care and children's services.' [2]

Previous roles also include head of communications for NHS Quality Improvement Scotland between October 2004 and November 2008, there he was responsible for a team who covered all aspects of internal and external communications, including publications, media, parliamentary, events and digital communications. As well as this, he was also head of communications for the Scottish National Party, where he was put in charge of the development and implementation of media strategy. [2]
