Formed in January 1988, with 35 people, Citigate grew to an organisation with more than 350 staff, operating from offices in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Northampton, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, New York, San Francisco, Johannesburg, Durban, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Pre-tax profits of Citigate in the five years to September 30 1996 grew consistently from £403,000 to about £2.15m. Earnings per share over this period rose from £1.17 to about £3.90 per share.
