Ben Saunders is a director for G4S overseeing the company's immigration removal centres near Gatwick.[1]

Saunders worked in children's services departments at a local authority from 1990 to 2003.

G4S

Medway Secure Training Centre

Saunders held various positions at Medway Secure Training Centre (STC) for G4S between 2002 and 2012.

  • Head of Training & Programmes, 2002 to 2003
  • Head of Care, 2003 to 2005
  • Deputy Director and Head of Youth Offending Services, 2005 to 2007

He became Director in 2007. This role involved "Providing strategic and tactical advice, leadership and support to all aspects of the STC contract, ensuring consistent service delivery within contractual and financial parameters and ensuring security, safety and control within the custodial environment."

Saunders advised the "Prime Minister’s Special Advisors at 10 Downing Street on Looked After Children in the Youth Justice System." He was "G4S Children’s Services Restraint Leader and Physical Control in Care Instructor." He advised in the "Independent Restraint Review 2008 Smallridge & Williamson".

Gatwick immigration removal centres

Saunders became Director for G4S of the Gatwick immigration removal centres in 2012. The Gatwick 'cluster' often refers to Brook House IRC, Tinsley House IRC and Cedars PDA. Children can be detained at both Tinsley and Cedars.
