From June 2000 - June 2004 he was also Chairman of the University for Industry (Ufi) Ltd, which operates Learndirect, a Government initiative for lifelong learning.
 
 
 
He was formerly Chairman of Diageo plc, following the merger of Guinness plc and Grand Metropolitan plc in December 1997. Before that merger he was Chairman and Chief Executive of Guinness plc.
 
 
 
Sir Anthony was Chairman of the Employment Policy Committee of the Confederation of British Industry from July 1998 to January 2003. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and Vice-President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is a member of the Council for Industry and Higher Education. He was honoured with a knighthood in HM The Queen’s birthday honours list in 1999 for his services to the drinks industry.

Sir Anthony Greener knighted in 1999 for services to the drinks industry became head of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in October 2002. The former head of Diageo has held several influential positions in both the public and private sectors. [1] Greener was the Master of Ceremonies in 1996 at one of the two inductions to The Keepers of the Quaich.[2]
