Sir Alex Allan is the UK Prime Minister's independent adviser on ministerial interests, appointed in January 2012. He is a former senior civil servant.

Civil service career

Allen was the head of the UK's Joint Intelligence Committee from 2007 until he left the Cabinet Office on 30 September 2011.[1] [2]

His formal position was Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee and Head of Intelligence Assessment and was 'responsible to the Prime Minister for supervising the work of the JIC'.[3] He was also the 'head of the Joint Intelligence Organisation, which includes the Assessments Staff, a group of analysts responsible for drafting JIC assessments, providing warnings of threats to UK interests, and monitoring countries at risk of instability.' [4] In this role Allan is also in charge of the Strategic Horizons Unit of the JIO. He was appointed in December 2007.[5]
