The Academy of Medical Sciences is a learned society founded in 1998 focussing on the promotion of medical science.

Aims and objectives

The Academy identifies its objectives as follows:

Promoting excellence
Influencing policy to improve health and wealth
Nurturing the next generation of medical researchers
Linking academia, industry and the NHS
Seizing international opportunities
Encouraging dialogue about the medical sciences[1]

Networks

The Academy 'regularly work in partnership with Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council, Association of Medical Research Charities, the Medical Schools Council and other UK national academies'.[2]

Governance

The Academy is governed by a Council of 24 Fellows including six Honorary Officers, whose meetings are chaired by the President of the Academy.[3]
