Lord Naseby attempts to block plain cigarette packaging

In March 2015, Morris tabled a motion in the House of Lords that attempted to block the legislation to introduce plain cigarette packaging in the UK. [2] Morris stated claims that similar laws in Australia had reduced smoking were in fact false, saying, 'it is the only country to have introduced standardised packaging. It was claimed that the rate of new smoking would decline. In fact, today it is at a seven-year high in Australia.' [3] Despite his objections to the legislation, he withdrew his bid to block the regulations knowing he would lose the vote. On 16 March 2015, Peers agreed to introduce plain cigarette packaging without a vote after it was backed overwhelmingly by MPs. [4]
