Nic Frances

Nic Frances is CEO and entrpreneur of global company Cool nrg, previously Easy Being Green, both of which were started from his Melbourne home (the former in 2007 and the latter in 2004). They broker huge energy saving lightbulb deals and sell resulting carbon credits on to businesses. He is a major advocate of profitable market based 'solutions' to climate change which partner business and governments in financial and carbon gains.

His book 'End of Charity' (published by Allen & Unwin) suggests that non-profit charities are guilty of maintaining the status quo, and claims that 'the only way to save the planet is to help big business to make a profit from it'. [1]

The social enterprise sector has been endorsed enthusiastically by Gordon Brown and David Cameron who speak of it as a 'third way' solution to climate change and other difficult social issues, partnering business with public policy objectives.'[2]

Biography

According to the Observer's 2008 article: 'He was one of the first 30 Schwab Social Entrepreneurs, a group convened by World Economic Forum Founder and Chairman, Klaus Schwaband now sits on the council. In 2008 he was invited to lead forum discussions on climate change and energy policy. In 2009, Nic joined the board of Cape York Partnerships for Welfare Reform, a partnership organisation that enables social and economic change for Australia’s most disadvantaged people.' [3]

Previously he was a high flying stockbroker, longing to impress his hotel-owning father.

He was ordained as an Anglican priest in 1996 and in 1998, he emigrated from the United Kingdom to Australia where he led the Brotherhood of St Laurence until 2004.[4]

In College he chaired the Conservative Association and was an admirer of Margaret Thatcher.
