Mustafa Alani

Mustafa Alani (born 24 July 1951) is Senior Advisor and Program Director in Security and Terrorism Studies at the Dubai based Gulf Research Center.

Education

Alani holds a Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Exeter, an M.A. in International Relations from Keele University and a B.A. in Politics from the University of Baghdad.[1]

Biography

Alani is a Sunni Arab Iraqi and a self-described Iraqi nationalist and Arab nationalist.[2] Born in Baghdad, Alani left Iraq in 1975 and at some point was granted British citizenship.[3] Since 1988, he has acted as consultant and advisor on political and security developments in the Middle East. His research focuses on security developments in the Gulf region, with particular emphasis on Iraq and Iran, and on Islamist terrorist and fundamentalist groups. Until September 2004, he was a consultant and fellow at the Middle East Security Program of the Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies (RUSI) in London.[4]
