The Hugh Fraser Foundation was established in 1960 by Sir Hugh Fraser with shares in House of Fraser and other investments. Trust funds stood at £31.2m in 2001.

In 1975 the Foundation was a main funder of the Fraser of Allander Institute a think tank set up at the University of Strathclyde.

The David Hume Institute recorded the foundation as one source of 'major grants and sponsorship' in its first decade between 1985 and 1995.[1]
